Many studies have shown the efficacy of 4DryField® PH, including several experimental studies, as well as publications from gynecology, visceral surgery, pediatric cardiac surgery, urology, orthopedics, and burn surgery.
The clinical studies from gynecology, visceral and pediatric cardiac surgery confirm also clinically the excellent efficiency of 4DryField® PH in adhesion prevention. Accordingly, a significant reduction of adhesions was proven in re-interventions (second looks).
Furthermore, the time for freeing the heart during re-interventions was significantly reduced in pediatric cardiac surgery and in gynecology, 4DryField® PH led to reduced pain and a significantly increased pregnancy rate. You can find these and further studies on our Publications page:
4DryField® PH consists of sterile, hydrophilic microprous particles. These are manufactured from highly purified plant starch using the special SAFE™ technology. 4DryField® PH does not contain any components of human and/or animal origin and is therefore biocompatible, pyrogen-free and hypoallergenic. Furthermore, it demonstrates excellent tolerability, is non-cytotoxic and promotes recovery (Poehnert et al., 2015).
4DryField® PH meets the high requirements for a class III medical device. Side effects have not been reported to date. Occasionally, there may be a temporary CRP increase without leucocytosis and without temperature elevation (Ziegler et al., 2021), which subsides by itself after a few days.
For easy and fast application of 4DryField® PH during laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures, PlantTec Medical offers the specially developed disposable 4DFLap™.

Product Variants
Depending on the area of application, 4DryField® PH is available in different packaging sizes: 4DryField® PH in the blue bellows bottle is available with 1 g, 3 g, 5 g or 9 g content.
4DryField® PH for Adhesion Prevention
4DryField® PH for adhesion prophylaxis is based on the physical separation of existing wound surfaces. In order to ensure an individual application tailored to the surgeon(s) at all times, there are two different options for the use of 4DryField® PH: as an in-situ gel or as an extracorporeally mixed gel. The amount of 4DryField® PH depends on the intraoperative situation.
It is important to apply 4DryField® PH generously to all areas that need to be protected from adhesions. After application of 4DryField® PH, the powder is soaked with sterile solution until a blood-free gel is formed. This ensures the high effectiveness for adhesion prevention, as the graphic shows.

Fields of application
In principle, 4DryField® PH can be used for all surgical procedures – both open and laparoscopic. The use of 4DryField® PH has proven to be particularly effective in abdominal and pelvic surgeries, as patients particularly benefit from effective adhesion prevention.
4DryField® PH is supplied as a powder in blue bellows bottles of 1 g, 3 g, 5 g and 9 g and is ready for immediate use. The blue 1 g bottles are suitable, for example, for use in the dental field and ENT surgery. In other surgical applications, the blue bottles containing 3 g, 5 g or 9 g are suitable.

4DFLap™ is a disposable applicator for the endoscopic and laparoscopic application of 4DryField® PH
4DFLap™ is both a rigid and a flexible and bendable disposable applicator with memory effect for the manual administration of the medical device 4DryField® PH by medical or healthcare professionals:
When surgical procedures or control of bleeding from arterioles, capillaries or veins by conventional means is ineffective or impracticable
When the formation of postoperative adhesions is to be prevented after surgical procedures in cavities with mesothelial (or mesothelial-like) lining
4DFLap™ consists of three elements:
Ergonomically shaped handpiece with connection opening for 4DryField® PH bellows bottle
Flexible inner hose with memory effect, available either in 38 cm or 14 cm length
Rigid outer hose, either in 33 cm or 9 cm length
The ergonomically shaped handpiece allows three different grip positions due to its unique, scissor-like design. In addition, the PlantTec Medical GmbH logo embossed in relief ensures a firm grip. The attachment point for the bellows applicator of 4DryField® PH can be easily held closed with a finger to prevent a pressure drop in the abdomen, e.g. when changing the blue bellows bottle.
The flexible inner hose is dimensionally stable, but can be bent at will. Its memory effect allows the hose to be bent even before it is inserted into the trocar. Its inner diameter is ideally suited for the administration of the 4DryField® PH powder. It can be used both together with the rigid outer tube for precise guidance and without it for maximum flexibility.
The rigid outer hose allows very precise positioning of the flexible inner tube. It is also ideal for the application of sterile isotonic saline to transform 4DryField® PH powder into gel for adhesion prevention.
4DFLap™ can be used in all areas of endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery where direct administration of 4DryField® PH with the blue bellows bottle is difficult. The outer diameter of the outer hose of 4DFLap™ fits in 5 mm trocars.
